The Michelin Guide 2024 has recognized six restaurants in Ireland with the prestigious Bib Gourmand award, a distinction given to establishments that offer high-quality, affordable dining.

This year, 20 restaurants throughout Britain and Ireland have been awarded recognition, with five located in southern Ireland and one in the North.

Named in honor of Bibendum, also known as the Michelin Man, the distinction “highlights restaurants that provide excellent quality and value in their cooking,” confirmed the organization.

Amy Austin, La Gordita, and Lottie’s in Dublin

In the capital city, three popular eateries – Amy Austin, La Gordita, and Lottie’s – were rewarded for their authentic cooking, world-inspired dishes, and lively atmospheres.

La Gordita, a Spanish restaurant known for its delightful tapas and buzzing ambiance, was especially noted for its “Spanish delights” and “lively spot with authentic cooking.”

In the southern city of Cork, Ichigo Ichie Bistro formerly distinguished with a Michelin star for its kappou-style fine dininh, recently reopened as a laid-back bistro and natural wine bar.

Within a short span, it earned a spot in the Michelin guide under the new category. “Ichigo Ichie Bistro & Natural Wine is offering well-prepared Japanese dishes. A new incarnation of the original Ichigo Ichie, this is a more relaxed and accessibly priced restaurant that comes with the bustle of contented diners.”

Takashi Miyazaki, the restaurant’s proprietor, expressed astonishment at the swift recognition garnered by his revamped concept, which debuted just three weeks ago in the same location on Fenns Quay as its predecessor. “The acknowledgment came as a surprise, almost a shock,” he remarked.

Solas Tapas in Dingle

The return of Belfast’s Home restaurant’s Bib Gaurmond can be attributed to the arrival of a new chef and an extensive selection of local produce.

The Michelin Guide inspectors appreciated Ichigo Ichie Bistro for being “a more relaxed and accessibly priced restaurant that comes with the bustle of contented diners,” while Solas was described as a “must-visit” for its innovative cooking.

In Dublin, La Gordita in Rathmines was noted for serving “unfussy dishes packed with flavour“, and Amy Austin’s restaurant was praised for producing dishes that “take cues from all over the world.”

The Michelin Guide inspectors also recognized Lottie’s in Dublin as a dining establishment offering delightful unfussy dishes.

In Belfast, Home restaurant has earned back its Bib Gourmand, saying “thanks to a new chef and some terrific produce. The extensive menus include a host of delicious dishes at an attractive price, accompanied by friendly service and a welcoming feel”.
